Adults - This Summer Adults will be asked to "Catch the Reading Bug" by Reading at least one book from the categories listed on the Summer Reading Challenge form. The categories this year are General Nonfiction, True Crime, Adventure Fiction or Nonfiction, Historical Fiction, General Fiction and a Free Choice. The forms will be available at the Information Desk beginning May 27th
Children - Click here for complete brochure (Also refer to the Childrens Events Page and 2008 Summer Programming Page) Please note in the brochure no dates are listed for the Summer Drop-in Storytime. It begins the week of June 16 and ends with the week of July 28 (no storytime July 4th week).
What you can do during our Summer Reading Program:
Reading Clubs: There is a reading club for every child from infant to age 17. You read books or are read to over the summer for a chance to win prizes. You must register for an age-appropriate book club. Registration for reading clubs begins Monday, June 16, 2008. You may begin turning in reading sheets Monday, June 23rd.
Wednesday Performances: We have a professional performer on Wednesdays at 10:00am and again at 1:00pm beginning June 18th, 2008. The program is the same at both times. All are welcome and registration is not required.
Various Programs: We offer a variety of programs for all ages. Some programs may or may not require registration and some programs may or may not have space limitations. Please read information carefully regarding specific programs.
Fun Activities: We will have contests, scavenger hunts, coloring sheets and other activities that can be done in the library each week.
Reading Clubs
Franklin Public Library’s Summer Reading Clubs always begin the Monday after the Franklin Public Schools’ last school day and end the last Friday in July.
Participants can turn in
their first reading sheet to begin
winning prizes Monday, June 23, 2008.
Participants may register for ONLY ONE reading club and can not change clubs once they have registered.
Caterpillar Club (birth to Grade 2 - Fall, 2008)
Record TITLES that you read or that are read to you-10 titles per sheet. Prize coupons are given for the first 10 titles; other prizes for more books read.
Ant Club (Grade 3 and 4 - Fall, 2008)
Record TIME spent reading in 20-minute increments-200 minutes per sheet. Prize coupons are given for the first 200 minutes; other prizes for more minutes read.
Cockroach Club (Grade 5 and above - Fall, 2008)
Record TIME spent reading in 30-minute increments-300 minutes per sheet. Prize coupons are given for the first 300 minutes; other prizes for more minutes read.
YA Book Club (Ages 13-17) PLEASE see Page 2 of YA Book Club Flyer
Children ages 13 and older have a choice to participate in the Cockroach Club or the YA Book Club.

Please note: Sign up, as stated in the brochure, for any programs requiring registration is Tuesday May 20th for Franklin residents and Tuesday May 27th for non-Franklin residents.
