Wednesday Movies at the Library

Join us at the Hales Corners Library for movie showings every other Wednesday. Movies are shown "big screen" style in the Hunt room, lower level of the library and are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.

  • Wednesday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. - Atonement

Atonement spans several decades. In 1935, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. Robbie Turner, the educated son of the family's housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony's headstrong older sister Cecilia. Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony, who has a crush on Robbie, is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested, and with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever.

This film is 130 minutes long and rated R for disturbing war images, language and some sexuality.

  • Wednesday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. - Lars and the Real Girl

Lars and the Real Girl is a heartfelt comedy starring Academy-Award nominated Ryan Gosling as Lars Lindstrom, a loveable introvert whose emotional baggage has kept him from fully embracing life. After years of what is almost solitude, he invites Bianca, a friend he met on the Internet, to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his brother Gus and Gus's wife Karen, who are stunned. They don't know what to say to Lars or Bianca because Bianca is a life-size doll, not the real person Lars is treating her as. They consult the family doctor who explains this is a delusion he's created and suggests they all go along with it. What follows in an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him..

This film is 106 minutes long and rated PG-13 for some sex-related content..

  • Wednesday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. - Gone Baby Gone

In Gone Baby Gone, when two young private detectives are hired to take a closer look into the mysterious disappearance of a little girl, they soon unravel a multitude of twists and turns where nothing is what it seems. Ultimately they must risk everything -- their relationship, their sanity, and even their lives -- in search to find her. Gone Baby Gone will have you talking long after it's over.

This film is 114 minutes long and rated R for violence, drug content and pervasive language.
