How do I get a library card?

Any resident of Milwaukee County can apply for a library card at our check-out desk.  You will need valid photo identification and proof of address that shows your current Milwaukee County address.  If you are not a resident of Milwaukee County, you may purchase an annual fee card that allows you to check out Shorewood Library material

How can my child get a library card?

Children ages seventeen and younger need to have a parent or legal guardian present in order to get a library card.  If the child does not have valid photo identification, the parent or legal guardian will need to present valid photo identification and proof of address that shows their current Milwaukee County address.

Where can I use my library card?

Your library card can be used at the Shorewood Library to check-out library materials.  You can also use your library card to access various library services through the library's website.  Your library card can also be used to check out library material at any other public library in Milwaukee County.

May I use other library cards at the Shorewood Library?

If you are a resident of Milwaukee County and have a valid library card issued by another public library in Milwaukee County, you may use that library card at the Shorewood Library.

If I have forgotten to bring my library card, may I still check-out library material?

Having you library card with you is the best and fastest way to check-out.  However, if you have forgotten your card you may check-out if you have a valid photo identification.

How do I notify the library if I change my address?

If you change your address, you can update your library record by bringing in valid identification and proof of address that shows your new Milwaukee County address.  Address changes need to be made in person.

How do I change the telephone number listed in my library record?

Log into you CountyCat Account and select Modify My Info.  A pop-up box will appear where you can modify your personal contact information.

How do I add or change an e-mail address listed in my library record?

Log into your CountyCat Account and select Modify My Info.  A pop-up box will appear where you can modify your personal contact information.

What do I do if my library card is lost or stolen?

If your library card is lost or stolen, report it to the library by calling 414-847-2670 or e-mail the circulation staff.  Once we receive notice of a loss or theft of your library card, your card will be deactivated so no one else can use it.  A replacement library card can be issued at the check-out desk with valid photo identification and proof of address.  Children under 18 will need to have a parent or guardian present to receive a replacement card.  Replacement cards cost $1.00.
