How do I check out items at the library?

You can check out items at the library by taking you library and items to the checkout desk, where a clerk will take care of you.  You may also use EZ-Out, our self checkout machine.

How long may I keep library items?

Loan Periods for Shorewood Owned Items
DVDs (Entertainment)............. Three Days
DVDs (Educational)................ One Week
Videocassettes ....................... One Week
Magazines ............................... One Week
New Fiction ............................. One Week
Certain Holiday Items ............. One Week
All other items ......................... Three Weeks*
Items you requested from other libraries may have different loan periods, so check your due date slip carefully.

*Shorewood-owned three week items (that are not new or on hold for anyone else) can be requested for a six week loan period.  Items that are checked out for six weeks cannot be renewed.

How will I know when my items are due?

When you check out, you will be given a date due slip.  A handy list that shows the items you checked out and when they need to be returned.  You can also check the due dates of items on your library card by viewing Your Account online.

What are the overdue fines?

Shorewood DVDs and Videocassettes................ 50¢ per day
All other Shorewood items...................................... 15¢ per day
Items you requested from other libraries may have different overdue fines.

Is there a grace period?

There is a three day grace period on all Shorewood owned items.  No fines will be charged for material returned during the grace period.  Once past the grace period, overdue fines are calculated from the due date.
