Dear Parent/Caregiver,  

      Welcome to ROCK & READ Lap sit story times. Lap sits are planned for children, six to twenty three months, and adult caregivers. The ROCK & READ sessions will be held Mondays – APRIL 7 - 28 from 10:10 – 10:30 a.m. or 6:30 – 6:50 p.m.  PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  REGISTRATION BEGINS March 24, 2008.  

      We know that language and early literacy skills begin developing at birth.  Lap sit story times are designed around activities that aid in that development – talking, reading, rhymes, music and movement. A typical session will include books, poems, songs, finger plays and lap games. Activities and materials are age appropriate.

There are a few guidelines you must follow so that we can all make the most of this experience. If you feel you can’t follow these guidelines for any reason, it would be best not to register for ROCK & READ at this time.  

• Bring only the child who is registered. Activities are not appropriate for older children. Make this a special time for you and your little one to interact and enjoy.

• Parent participation is crucial. Plan to interact with your child.

• Wear comfortable clothes

•  You can sit on a chair or on the floor with child on your lap. You may want to bring a blanket if you plan to sit on the floor.

•  Lap sit sessions are casual and relaxed atmospheres. We don’t expect children to be quiet or constantly attentive. We know walkers may wander.

• Please do what you can to minimize distractions

·        No food or drinks during the session

·        Don’t bring toys or other objects that might be distracting. You may bring items that are calming – favorite blanket, pacifier, etc.

·        If you child is crying or very agitated, please step out of the room until s/he is more settled.
