You do not need to reregister in January. If you are not planning to return after the winter break, please let us know.

Pre-school story times are designed to provide children with experiences that enrich their early literacy and social development. A typical story time consists of sharing stories in a variety of forms (books, flannel boards, etc.), finger games, movement activities, simple creative dramatics, and occasional art projects. The picture books used in the sessions are developmentally appropriate and reflect a range of artistic styles.

There are a few things we would like you to know about story time that will help make the most of this time:

  • Arrive at least five minutes early so that children can get settled. Late arrivals can disrupt the group and diminish the enjoyment.
  • Attendance is taken before each session. Please have your child check-in with the librarian. If for any reason, you plan to stop bringing your child to story hour or your child will be absent for several weeks, please let us know so that we may plan accordingly.
  • Story time sessions are a special time for young children to interact with other children their own age and adults outside of the family. Adults and children of different ages tend to create distractions for the story group. For that reason, we ask that parents and siblings DO NOT stay inside the Story Room during the session. You may check on your child by glancing through the Story Room window. We encourage you to use other areas of the library. (Please make sure siblings are supervised while in other areas of the library.)

If you feel your child is not ready to be left alone, you should consider waiting a few months before joining the group. Throughout the year, the library sponsors special programs designed for family participation. Look for announcements of these events.

If at anytime you have questions about story hour or if there is something special I should know about your child (health conditions, allergies, fears, etc.), please feel free to talk with me.
