Toddler Time

Dear Parent/Caregiver:

Welcome to Toddler Story hour. Toddler story times are planned for two-year olds and adult caregivers.  The story hours will be held Mondays – April 7 - 28 from 9:10 – 9:30 a.m.  PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. REGISTRATION BEGINS March 24, 2008.

THE LIBRARY DOES NOT OPEN UNTIL 9:30 A.M.
YOU MAY WAIT IN THE LOBBY. A STAFF MEMBER
WILL LET STORY HOUR FAMILIES IN AT 9:05 A.M.

Toddler story times are designed to be a brief introduction to the library and world of books for very young children.  They are meant to be a sharing experience that can be carried over into a home setting. A typical session includes short stories presented in various formats (books, flannel boards, etc.), finger plays and simple creative dramatics.  Each session will have a theme.  Materials chosen are appropriate to the interests and attention span of two-year olds.

There are some guidelines you must follow so that we can all make the most of this experience.  If you feel you cannot follow these guidelines for any reason, it would be best not to register for Toddler Story Hour at this time.  We encourage you to find alternative ways to enjoy the library and books.

1)                 Please discuss story hour with your child before you come, explaining there will be stories, games and puppets and that you will participate together. Young children need to know what's expected of them.

2)                 Bring only the toddler who is registered.  These sessions are planned for a limited number of participants.  Activities are inappropriate for older or younger children. Make this a special time for you and your two-year-old

3)                 Please make every effort to be on time. Two-year olds are easily distracted and latecomers become the focus of attention.

4)                 A trip to the restroom right before story time is often a good idea.

5)                 Plan to check out books so that you and your child may take the story time experience home with you.

The main purpose of this program is for everyone to have a good time.  With your help, we hope to develop your toddler's love of books and the library.  If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with me. (Telephone number 847-2670.)
