Z39.50 Client Set Up

The Milwaukee County Federated Library System maintains its database on the Sierra platform. The catalog can be accessed at: https://countycat.mcfls.org/. Please Note: As of January 1, 2025, access to Z39.50 resources through our system will be limited to Wisconsin schools and libraries.  To gain access, please use the helpdesk portal here and choose “Z39.50 Information” and provide your public IP address to be whitelisted in our database. Thank you.

Additional information:
  • Our MARC records contain our OCLC symbol and cataloger initials in the 049 field. Users of our records may want to modify or remove this field.
  • MCFLS MARC records use these thesauri: LCSH, LCGFT (655/7 $2lcgft), Homosaurus (6xx/7 $2homoit), and Indigenous Peoples headings (6xx/7 $2indig). Catalogers for MCFLS recommend reviewing subject and genre/form headings in use to ensure they conform with your library’s needs.
  • MCFLS MARC records may also include limited use of local subject headings (690) and locally applicable notes (5xx) that users may wish to review.
